Francisco Luzón has always been famed for his passion to transform realities; an economist by training, he is a key figure in the transformation of Spanish and Latin American banking over the past 30 years.

An essential part of the banking history of our country, from entities in which he has held positions of the utmost importance: in Banco Bilbao Vizcaya, in Banco Exterior as Chairman, as the creator and Chairman of the Argentaria Banking Corporation and as the leader of Banco Santander’s expansion throughout Latin America.

This passion also led him to foster educational projects and platforms like Universia, which are based on public-private collaboration and promote networking, especially between Spain and Latin America.

Throughout his professional career, Francisco Luzón has had a tremendous presence in Foundations and programmes that support education and research, as a way of contributing to social development.

Today, he leads a Foundation that aims to be a European benchmark in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). This is the Francisco Luzón Foundation, whose mission consists of improving the quality of life of ALS sufferers and their families by improving their socio-health care and promoting research.

He has been bestowed with the Gold Medal for Work Merit and the Great Cross of Alfonso X the Wise.
